Origami Dynamic Content Management
What exactly is Origami?
Origami is a content management system (CMS) that we built for clients who want the ability to update the content on their site without sacrificing the visual layout. Many competing CMS options restrict customers to a set of pre-made website templates. This means that multiple customers end up with the same site design. We built Origami to work around a custom design that we develop for you individually. This means that you get the benefit of content management and a custom design tailored to your business.
- Who is Origami for?
- We built Origami for clients with small to mid-size website needs who want to provide information on the products and services they offer. For example, professional service firms such as law firms have used Origami successfully to market their services, introduce their firm, and dynamically publish resources about their industry. In summary, Origami is for clients who want the freedom to add, edit, and remove pages and content from their custom designed website without enlisting the help of a professional Web developer.
- What technical abilities do clients need to use Origami?
- A top priority in developing Origami was to enable non-technical website owners to update their site from any web-connected computer from anywhere at anytime. Origami features a word-processor-like interface similar to Microsoft Word that enables a user to layout and format text and images on their site. Using a built in WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor interface, the user can upload images, format text, construct tables, lists, and columns all with no HTML or web-layout knowledge.
- What exactly can a site-owner do with Origami?
- The primary function of Origami is to enable site-owners to create, edit, and/or delete pages. To this end, the user can also update the primary and secondary nav bars on their site and order the display of links stored therein. Site-owners can post announcements on the home page, create and post user opinion polls, and update their primary contact information.
- What is the process?
- We begin the project with a creative interview to determine your brand requirements, identify your audience, and solidify the visual objectives of the site. We will submit a mockup for your approval and follow up with revisions. Once approved, we will slice the mockup into XHTML and CSS and begin testing in IE, FireFox, and Safari browsers. Once the site is sliced, we will create a unique Origami user account for you and connect the site to your Origami database. Once this is complete, we will guide your through the process of managing content on your site and will help you prepare the site for launch. Once the site is launched you will be have access to update the content at anytime.
- What is the difference between an Origami site and a custom designed non-CMS site?
- Because an Origami site is "content-managed", which is to say a non-technical user can update the content, there exists a few design restrictions intrinsic to dynamic content. For example, once a site design is selected, that design will be used as a template for every page thereafter. This means that every page in the site will have the same surrounding layout structure, whereas the content from page to page will change within the designated content container. Since we design our custom non-CMS sites page by page, we have more flexibility to be creative on each page.
